Roll Away Pain on the Outside of Your Thigh

Excessive sitting, running, faulty posture, locked up sacroiliac joints and low back issues are a few of the causes of tight Iliotibial Bands (IT Bands). This condition is painful and can hinder the complete resolution of hip/buttock and low back issues.
The IT Band is along the outside of the thigh from the hip to the knee. Addressing the tension on the outside of the leg with a foam roller can be painful, but very effective. If you have spoken with your chiropractor or massage therapist and they have suggested these exercises, do your best to stick with them. Within a week or 2 you should notice that the area is less tender as the exercises become easier.

We suggest the first variation of these exercises to our patients. There is no need to advance to the second or third versions. If this exercise feels excessively painful please stop and speak to Dr. Shulman or Dr. Neely before continuing.
